Understand the different volumes of hydrogen peroxide
Do you know what the different types of volumes in cosmetic hydrogen peroxide are for?
The hydrogen peroxide, or Ox, is an important ally when it comes to discoloring, coloring or making locks, as it is she who will open the hair cuticles and expose the part where the hair color pigment is, so that the bleaching powder or colorings act on them. It causes hair to become oxidized, and in contact with ammonia it generates a chemical reaction that releases oxygen, allowing the bleaching powder to enter and remove pigmentation from the hair. But it is important to know which one is the most suitable for your hair, according to the result you hope to obtain. When in doubt, always look for a professional before applying any chemical to your hair!
The main powers of cosmetic hydrogen peroxide are 10, 20, 30 and 40 volumes, and each of these volumes serves a different application. But first you need to identify the base color of your hair to be able to know how many shades you want to be opened after its original tone. For example, if your hair tone is 4 (Medium Brown), you count from 4 onwards how many shades the chosen Ox can open together with the bleaching powder.
Understand the difference between different volumes of cosmetic hydrogen peroxide
- The 10-volume hydrogen peroxide (or 3% hydrogen peroxide) serves to fix or enhance the color, or to give a shine bath in the hair. It does not have whitening power even in already light hair, it will only fix the pigments. The fixing time is 30 minutes. Ideal for toning, darkening or tinting.
- The hydrogen peroxide of 20 volumes (or 6% hydrogen peroxide) serves to open up to two shades from the base color 5 (light brown), for example. If you start with a base color prior to this one, it will only be able to open one or half tone. It takes 30 to 55 minutes to act and after this time, it stops clearing. Indicated for white hair before being colored, to darken or make reflections in the strands.
- The hydrogen peroxide of 30 volumes (or 9% hydrogen peroxide) serves to open up to three shades starting from the base color 5 (light brown). It takes about 40 to 45 minutes to act and after this time, it will lose its effect. Suitable for people who want to start changing their hair color to blonde.
- The 40 volumes hydrogen peroxide (or 12% hydrogen peroxide) serves to open up to four shades starting from the base color 5 (light brown). It takes 50 minutes to act, being used with bleaches and bleaches to reach up to tone 9 (very light golden blond). When used with super brighteners, it can open up to 5 tones, reaching the platinum blond tones, 11 and 12, depending on the base color.
